Torah portion-Lech Lecha (You Go) God tells to Avraham to go to Eretz Canaan

Lech Lecha means “You Go.”  In this story we meet Avram who later becomes Avraham, the father of the Jewish people. Avram is married to Sarai, who becomes Sarah and they live in Haran.

God tells Avram to go from his homeland, from his birthplace, from his father’s house to a place that God will show him. Avram has a lot of faith and trust in God!

So, they pack their belongings, and together with Avram’s nephew Lot, they set off on their journey. They travel a long time, and as they travel, Lot’s shepherds and Avram’s shepherds begin to argue. Avram says, “Families should not fight! Choose where you want to go. If you go north I will go south. If you go south I will go north.” Lot thought only of himself and he chose to go where there was a beautiful stream and lots of fresh grass for his flocks, near Sodom in the South.

God blessed Avram and saw how kind he was. Avram’s name was changed to Avraham and Sarai’s name was changed to Sarah. Avraham and Sarah believed in one God and one God only.

God told them “I will bless you and make you a great nation with as many children as the stars in the sky.” This is interesting as they are very old and have no children.
