Joseph Part 3
Summary
Torah portion Va-Yigash
Summary: Joseph (Yosef) meets his Dad Jacob (Ya’akov) again
Va Yigash means “ and he approached.”
Judah approached Joseph and pleaded with him to accept him as a slave instead of Benjamin. Joseph was very emotional and revealed himself to his brothers. He assured them that they were not responsible for what happened in the past rather that God sent him to Egypt to save their lives during the famine. The brothers returned to Canaan and told their father that Joseph was alive and a ruler over Egypt.
Ya’akov (Jacob) set out on his journey and in the night God called out to him and told him that He will make Ya’akov into a great nation. Yosef met his father Ya’akov in the land of Goshen. They hugged and wept.
Pharoah greeted Joseph’s family warmly, offering them the best of his land. Ya’akov’s family settled there and increased greatly.
