Joseph Part 2

Summary

Torah portion: Mikeitz Summary: Joseph (Yosef) interprets Pharoah’s dreams

Pharoah dreamed that seven weak cows ate seven strong cows at the Nile River. Then he dreamed of seven healthy ears of corn grew on a stalk. After that,  seven thin ears swallowed the healthy ears of corn. Pharoah sent for Yosef who interpreted the dreams and said there would be seven years of plenty and seven years of famine.

In the land of Canaan, Jacob ( Ya’akov) sent ten of his sons to buy food and he kept the youngest son Benjamin at home. Joseph recognized his brothers but they did not recognize him. Joseph accused his brothers of being spies and required his brothers to bring Benjamin, whom they had spoken of, to Egypt-to prove their innocence. So, Benjamin went down to Egypt and a silver goblet was secretly placed in Benjamin’s sack. Later, Joseph accused him of theft.

When the goblet was found, the brothers returned to Joseph but still did not recognize him. He ignored the pleas of Judah , who spoke on behalf of his brothers, and said that Benjamin was  to become his slave, while the other brothers were to return to their father.
